Major building works on Volmoed started in 1991 with the Service Building.
Keurboom was the first bungalow finished, then work started on Vyeboom Up and Down.
After seeing the waste of space under Keurboom it was decided to build a double storey for Vyeboom.
A small team of 8 men from the valley were employed and taught building skills by John Cupido, the Master builder. All went well until August 1992 when the money dried up and the team faced retrenchment but finance came in and they continued, some days in faith.
A special-fund raising letter went out in May 1993 to ask for help for the R16,000 needed for the slab to make accommodation for 12 upstairs and 6 downstairs.
You will notice a square of wood in the floor by the fire place which could one day house a staircase making up and down accessible.
The big round dining room table and chairs were given to us by a friend as was the lounge suite. The interesting lamp made from a piece of wood came from Clem Sergel, a good friend of Volmoed.
Access is via a ramp and we have a wheelchair-friendly bathroom and bedroom in Vyeboom Up.
Praise God for His provision for Vyeboom.
