This cottage was the first formal accommodation on Volmoed, established in January 1987.

Named after Grace Trevelyan who with her husband, Paul, donated half the costs of purchasing the unit, it was previously a “site office” in Fish Hoek - so it was quite an operation to get it to Volmoed.

A site had to be cleared where it could stand and also there had to be access both in and out for the large truck to drive in, deposit the house and drive away. Sewage had to be connected and as there was no electricity on Volmoed until 1989, guests were given candles and paraffin lights. The stove and fridge and water for showers ran on gas.

Many have been blessed by their stay here.

February 2008 saw Grace moving down the hill to a new site below the Prayer Hut, where it is now fully electrified.
