When we moved to Volmoed in 1986, Faith Cottage was a grey cement ‘hok’ – just walls and roof. It was rumoured that it had been a cattle and chicken hok and there was evidence of them inside! It became the home of the generator during the years of no electricity on the farm 1986 – 1989 and that was its sole use until one day a friend visited Volmoed. He said to Bernhard and Jane “What are you going to do with the chicken hok?” and he challenged them on their faith saying they had come to Volmoed in faith so why not step out and make it into a home.
Within a short time R16,000 came in and building started early in 1990 first with bashing down the cement with 10 pound hammers – quite a job! The side and front wall of the present lounge are original and if you look closely you will see that they are not straight.
Faith Cottage was so called because of the step in faith and it became the home of John and Betty Cupido in October 1990 when they joined Volmoed for 3 years service. John helped with building the Service Building and Keurboom and Betty became “mother” to various volunteers who came to stay for a while from UK, USA and Russia.
This cottage has easy access to the living area for older visitors.
Praise God for His provision for Faith Cottage.
