The foundations for this bungalow went in when the foundations were dug for Vyeboom Up and Down and then they just “sat” and nothing happened as there were no funds for building. In our Nov/Dec 1996 newsletter we reported that it was becoming embarrassing that nothing was happening. One of our prayer partners took a stone from the foundations and each day she would pray for the building to be built!

We were reminded of the fact that we came to Volmoed in faith, built the first cottage (Faith Cottage) in faith and possibly we were being gently challenged to see if we still had faith to go forward in spite of no funds.
The Trustee’s decided to begin work on Boekenhout if they could raise the modest sum of R5000 to launch the project and established a separate account for the money raised. Building started in January 1997 and slowly as money came in we continued to build with our small team.

John Cupido had left Volmoed at the end of 1993 and Deon who had been trained by John was the main builder under Bernhard’s watchful eye. June 1997 saw Henry Gibson (local carpenter and now a Trustee) and his team put on the roof.

Each step of the building has a testimony and we give thanks and praise to Our Lord for the way He worked.

The first guests, St. Thomas’ Church in Rondebosch, arrived on Friday 18th September 1998. We give thanks to their generosity in many ways which made the finishing of the bungalow possible.

Praise God for His provision for Boekenhout.
